GENERAL INFORMATION The CAAC Library, specialized in contemporary art, aims to support research and creativity while also providing access to and sharing knowledge on contemporary artistic productions. It boasts an extensive collection of documents on Spanish and international art in every media format, encompassing the fields of visual art, architecture, design, photography, film, video art, and new technology applied to the artistic expression, as well as monographic works on museography, museology and other areas of art-related knowledge, such philosophy, sociology, communications and so on. It also has a substantial reference section (dictionaries, encyclopaedias, bibliographies, etc.). Begun with the bibliographic holdings of
the CAAC’s predecessor, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo
de Sevilla, today the CAAC Library continues to grow by three methods:
purchases, exchanged with other Spanish and international institutions,
and donations and long-term loans. The CAAC Library currently has publications exchange agreements with thirty-one contemporary art centres in Spain and abroad, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Centre Pompidou and the MoMA. It has been enriched by generous donations from cultural institutions as well as cultural agents, gallerists, painters, curators, art critics, journalists, musicologists and other individuals related to the contemporary art world. By way of example, we might mention the gifts received from the personal libraries of José Ramón Danvila, the sculptor and painter Rolando Campos, Equipo 57 and Juan Bosco Díaz-Urmeneta, or the permanent loans granted by Paco Molina, the Escuela de Estudios Hispanoamericanos, and the music archives of Francisco Ramos. The library also has an excellent periodicals section, as it subscribes to prestigious international art magazines such as Art in America, October, Afterall and Camera Austria, and constantly receives complimentary copies of other publications related to contemporary art. At present, the CAAC Library collection comprises more than 55,000 monographs, 425 periodicals, 1,980 posters, 1,700 CDs of contemporary music, and 700 audiovisual recordings.
